This is the most important step you can take as a citizen. It is your voice in a democratic society, and in the end, it's the only thing that matters. If you're not already registered:

Register to Vote (Michigan Secretary of State)

Rock the Vote

Not sure if you're registered? Not sure where to vote? The state of Michigan can help! Click here to find out if you're registered or where you need to go to vote, including a map from your house to your polling place.

If you're already registered to vote and are interested in helping to register others, try the Obama campaign Michigan events page. As part of his presidential campaign, Senator Obama has launched a massive, nationwide voter registration drive, and there's a good chance you can find an event near you to help register new voters.

You can also register new voters yourself using the register by mail form. If you register by mail and are a first-time voter, please note that you must vote in person in your first election, and cannot vote absentee.

NOTE:

The deadline to register to vote for the primary election is

JULY 7, 2008

The deadline for the general election is

OCTOBER 6, 2008

You MUST be registered before the deadline in order to vote.

In the state of Michigan, you must now have a valid photo ID when you vote, or sign an affidavit stating that you do not have a valid ID.

For more information, visit the Michigan Voter Information Center.

Contact Tim Walberg

Exercise your democratic rights, and tell Congressman Walberg what he's doing wrong! When you're done, feel free to send us a copy, and we'll post it for others to see. (And if you hear back from him, send us that, too!)

Tell Your Friends

Don't tell all your friends about Walberg Watch... we'd love to have the hits, but that's not what matters. Instead, tell them about Congressman Tim Walberg, the kind of job he's been doing, and why you think Michigan's 7th District can do better. Below are some talking points and tips:

Write Letters to the Editor

You probably have plenty of reasons for why Congressman Walberg shouldn't be reelected-- so many, in fact, that your friends and family are probably sick of hearing about it. (Good job!) Why not share those reasons with everyone in your community?

Here are some district and state newspapers:

Attend Campaign Events

What better way is there to hold Tim Walberg accountable than to go to his campaign events yourself? Ask him the tough questions he's not expecting from a friendly audience!

Not convinced about the Democrats yet? Need to see more? Go to their events, and ask them some tough questions, too. For more information, see our Calendar.

Join Walberg Watch on PartyBuilder

Want to organize with like-minded voters? Concerned that the candidates aren't spending any time in your area, and you want to get out there and talk to undecided voters yourself? Eager to connect with the Democratic campaigns?

Join the Walberg Watch group on PartyBuilder! It's a politically-focused social networking site, and it gives you a chance to start your own events, organize fundraisers, or even just meet others who can't stand Tim Walberg.

Are you a moderate Republican or independent, and you're hesitant to sign up with the DNC? Don't worry. Signing up to join the Walberg Watch PartyBuilder page won't commit you to work for Barack Obama or Howard Dean. You can do as much or as little as you want, and you can focus all of your energy on working with others in the 7th District who oppose Congressman Tim Walberg.

Blog

The internet can be a powerful tool for organizing and spreading your message, and blogging can give you a voice. Here are some options:

  1. Join a Michigan blog. Websites like Michigan Liberal and Blogging for Michigan are open to everyone and encourage you to come and contribute your own content.
  2. Submit content to Walberg Watch. It's not quite the same as the statewide blogs listed above, but Walberg Watch now lets you, the reader contribute posts to appear on our blog and on the front page. Go to the Submit Content page for more information.
  3. Blog for a campaign. There are two Democratic candidates in the 7th District-- Mark Schauer and Sharon Renier. Right now, the Schauer campaign is compiling a list of bloggers who support him, and I'm sure the Renier campaign would love to hear from you, too. To learn more about the candidates, click here.

Contribute

Walberg Watch does not accept donations. (Frankly, if you gave us your money, we wouldn't know what to do with it!) But you can contribute to the Democratic campaign of your choice, or contribute to a fund for the eventual Democratic nominee, whomever that will be. (Learn more about the candidates here.)

It's going to take a lot of time, energy, and hard work to beat Tim Walberg-- remember, he's an incumbent and he plays dirty. When you've picked which Democratic candidate you'd like to support, donate your most valuable resource, your time. See what you can do to help out.
